Day 3 Development Incubator -WIFT-T

On Day 3 we had 2 speakers – casting with Marissa Richmond and Distribution with Caroline Habib.  We were asked to submit character descriptions.  Kept vague on purpose, and if I had kept to my instinct, we might have had a bigger roster to glean from, but we were given some suggestions in casting.  But as with all the sessions before, I realized that my gut instinct meant a lot more than just what each presenter brought to the table.  And what I’m realizing is that a producer’s gut feeling means so much and each guest only feeds to that gut so that we-as producers-keep going to the finish line.  The film is the thing and producers must keep driving that process and steering that ship to stay on course.

Day 2 of WIFT-T Development Incubator

Today was Day 2 for Emily and I in the development incubator.  I got to ask some challenging questions in regards to financing and budgeting which is my area of expertise.  But still learned something new from John Griffith, as I try to do always in any situation.  Heard about the case study that was Book of Negroes from Damon D’Oliveira – what a dynamic speaker he is! And then had my mind blown in the afternoon with the big black hole that is packaging with Isabel Gomez-Moriana.  What it means to find a packaging agent and take your film to the next level.  And most importantly, got confirmation from other participants that our film is hilarious.  Whew! Always a good validation that others find you funny. A great day indeed!
