Post Banff Catch up

I remember my fist time at the Banff Media Festival in 2009. It was an honour to be selected for a program to attend for my first time. At this past edition, 2025, I was selected for two opportunities, and while I wanted to wear all three lanyards that announced my chosen status, I had to elect one and I decided on the special blue lanyard that announced I was part of the Banff Spark Producers Edition, sponsored by Paramount+.

This kind of curated experience meant that I could see my fellow cohort members and wave with a smile. We were 25 producers that knew what it took for us to attend this hustle and bustle of a conference in the beautiful Rocky Mountains. Surrounded by crisp, mountain air. It was easy to suggest meetings on the verandah outside kissed by the sun.

The Banff Spark and the Diversity of Voices experience means that we are surrounded by a like-minded cohort. We see each other and gravitated towards a shared experience. In this business, it’s so easy to be alone that having smiling faces to wave to as you run from one meeting to another is a must.

Anyone who wants to ask me about these two programs, feel free to reach out. When the applications come around again, I’m happy to discuss what it means to be sponsored by both. Do they help? I have to say a resounding yes, having been supported multiple times to attend. It’s a camaraderie that is beyond priceless.

More pictures to come!

Day 2 of WIFT-T Development Incubator

Today was Day 2 for Emily and I in the development incubator.  I got to ask some challenging questions in regards to financing and budgeting which is my area of expertise.  But still learned something new from John Griffith, as I try to do always in any situation.  Heard about the case study that was Book of Negroes from Damon D’Oliveira – what a dynamic speaker he is! And then had my mind blown in the afternoon with the big black hole that is packaging with Isabel Gomez-Moriana.  What it means to find a packaging agent and take your film to the next level.  And most importantly, got confirmation from other participants that our film is hilarious.  Whew! Always a good validation that others find you funny. A great day indeed!

Nobody’s Home is going to Hollywood!

Nobody’s Home is going to Hollywood!  We are honoured to be in official selection in the 2nd Annual Web Series Festival Global.  We are so stoked to be showcased in August.  Thanks for everyone’s support.  The more support we can get the more likely this series will be made.  Thanks for the ♥♥!

Regent Park Film Festival November 18 -21, 2015

I would love to have my friends and colleagues join me at the Regent Park Film Festival.  This year’s guests are exciting, including colleagues I’ve worked with: Cory Bowles (The Moblees), Clé Bennett (Heroes Reborn), and Dawn Wilkinson (Murdoch Mysteries). I’m looking forward to seeing the films for the pitch festival.  All films are free and the mission of this festival is so inspiring:

Mission: The Regent Park Film Festival is Toronto’s only free-of-charge multi-cultural community film festival, dedicated to showcasing local and international independent works relevant to inner-city communities across Toronto.  We host an annual festival and also hold year-round school and community screenings, workshops and discussions at no cost.

The Festival aims to reach isolated communities throughout Regent Park and beyond, providing a forum for people from all walks of life to engage in critical dialogue on social issues and to enjoy films from all over the world.

So come check out the link to the opening night of the festival, and reserve a seat!  See you there my friends.
